May. 8th, 2009 04:17 pmLorrie is just such a little miracle. The speed at which she's developing never fails to amaze me.
Right now, she is coloring. Every time she switches to a new crayon, she turns to announce its color to me. "Boo!" "Yes, blue." "Geen!" "Green." "Back!" "Black, yes." She knows all the color wheel colors, and black, brown, and pink.
She also knows her alphabet. Not in order, like ABCDE etc, but she can recognize and name every letter. Mostly. She has trouble with A vs V, B vs D, and E vs F. Just as I wrote this, she suddenly started announcing "X! X! X!" Sure enough, she'd drawn an X. Genius baby.
She has trouble with some fine distinctions: she calls all shirts both "shirt" and "dress", and the same for dresses. She knows "finger" and "thumb", but can't tell them apart.
She also, oddly, is very bad at name pronunciations. Although her articulation is very clear on most of her common words, she cannot at all say "Wesley" or "Lorrie". Wesley she says as "Seess", and Lorrie she says "Ah-ee" (kind of like "I", but with a pronounced diphthong).
She asks for help when she needs it ("Hewp. Hewp.") and had words for "sad" and "happy." She likes helping dress herself, and plays dress-up with my shoes and coats and hats.
She knows how to spell her name, and "Name" is one of her favorite games, where she holds a pen and we guide her through the letters to spell "Lorrie" over and over.
She is fearless and affectionate.
Her favorite games right now are "Hi!" and "Chase!" The way to play Hi is to run up to people in the room and say, "Hi!" with a big smile so they say "Hi" back. We play this a lot in the living room. I think "Hi!" is her most common word now; she says it dozens of times every day. The way to play chase is that you say, "Lorrie, do you want a kiss/hug/cuddle?" Then she takes a step toward you, grins coyly, and says, "CHASE!" Then you get up, and she takes off. When you catch her, she gets the kiss/hug/cuddle and laughs delightedly.
She is an angel and a doll and I adore every square millimeter of her.
