Gen Ficathon Stuff
Dec. 29th, 2005 10:03 amThis has actually been an extremely cool experience. My weak point as a writer has always been plot: how do you come up with a story to write? If you look at my topics, which I came up with, they really reflect that. Both are much more mood topics than anything else, and if I were to write them, they... would probably suck. It would be a vignette, sheer emotion with no actual events to move the story forward. Being given solid plot ideas to move towards has been a lot of fun.
I already wrote one of the stories, but am going to wait to post it here until the deadline. The other one I am partway through, but am modifying somewhat, since it's not actually my entry in the ficathon. The topic was: "Founders era. An illiterate serf is a Muggle-born witch or wizard...how will s/he survive Hogwarts? Condition: Chosen by Ravenclaw." Since the founders were technically before the feudal era, and I really like the idea of putting the actual Founders into it, I am going to adjust that to make my main character an illiterate slave, instead. I think it captures the same general feel, and requires less canon-wanking, which I despise, as a rule.
But I think I need to enter more of these things. This one's been a lot of fun.
