So, my hubby's 98-year-old grandmother shared with her son the news that she is, for the first time in her life, voting Democrat. He passed the news on to the rest of us. Woo!

Last night, I had dinner with my mother. While I was over there, I mentioned as an aside that I wondered how this Osama Bin Laden tape would affect the election. Whether people would flock to Bush for comfort, or be reminded of his fundamental failure in the War on Terror.

My mother told me that what frightened her most, watching that, was how much she could see his viewpoint, all of a sudden. We are killing their mothers, sons, and daughters. We are trying to inflict our world on them, destroying their way of life. What gives us the right, and would we not fight to the death to preserve ourselves?

It is rather frightening, but I find that when I look at it that way, too... he seems much more reasonable that the man declaring a crusade against them, and then attacking a bystander. Now, clearly, this was his intention -- to unsettle voters. But it's disturbing how much the last few months has opened us up to this.
