This afternoon we had a family party. On the way home, we by the grocery store to buy a 6-pound beef tenderloin. We almost never buy really good meat, but it was on sale for $7 a pound (down from $13), and I couldn't resist.
So, we had dinner (grilled chicken, egg noodles with parmesan, and a caesar salad) and put the kids to bed early. Then we settled in the kitchen. Peter did dishes, I shared family gossip I got from my mother today, and I dismantled the tenderloin into 20 steaks and a small roast for tomorrow.
At the end, I found a little bit of tenderloin left over, not big enough to mix in with any of the packages. But I didn't want to throw it out! So I asked Peter if he'd like a mini-steak for dessert. And he said yes. So I skillet-seared it, made a quickie brandy-dijon cream sauce, and served up 2-3 bites of steak on dessert plates for each of us.
Best dessert this month.
